Afro-Iranian Music & Heritage Workshop: Echoes of the Persian Gulf

May 22 @ 4:00 PM 7:00 PM CDT

This workshop explores the rich musical traditions of Southern Iran and the Persian Gulf, with a special focus on Afro-Iranian cultural heritage. Through live demonstrations, storytelling, rhythmic traditions, and historical discussion, participants will discover how music has shaped identity, memory, and community life across generations.
The program introduces audiences to traditional and folk musical forms from Southern Iran while highlighting the cultural exchanges that have influenced the region’s artistic heritage over centuries. The workshop is designed for both newcomers and those already interested in Iranian music and culture.
The event features Mohammad Khodadadi, a Bushehr-born musician, composer, singer, and educator who studied music composition in Austria and trained in ney performance, Persian Radif, voice, composition, piano, and conducting under renowned masters. His work bridges Southern Iranian folk traditions, Persian classical music, and contemporary composition through performance, research, and teaching.
He will be joined by musician and accompanist Shahab Aledavood.

Light refreshments will be served.
